The Soundex Extension generates a Soundex code (up to four-characters). This code can then be used to evaluate the similarity of two or more strings. The Soundex code is generated using the phonetics (sounds) within a string.

This is especially useful when searching for a name that may be spelled various ways:

Soundex ("Randal") returns RNTL and

Soundex ("Rendull") also returns RNTL.

Soundex ("Rodger") returns RGR

Soundex ("Roger") also returns RGR

There is also a function that compares two strings, SoundexDifference. This function will return:

4 when the soundex codes match perfectly

0 when the soundex codes are completely different

1 - 3 when the soundex codes are somewhat alike to very alike.

This extension is manufactured by PRL Software and is marketed by PalmDataPro.com. NOTE: This extension is no longer supported by PRL Software, is not supported by PalmDataPro, and is available on an AS IS basis only.

The extension includes a royalty-free per-developer runtime license, meaning you can distribute the extension PRC files royalty-free with your app but you need to purchase a separate license for each SF developer (basically the same as the SF Standard Edition license).
